Anthony Payne represents Hordern House in Europe and is based in London. A Cambridge graduate, he was an auctioneer at Christie's before joining Bernard Quaritch, where he worked with Derek McDonnell until Derek moved to Australia to found Hordern House with Anne McCormick. During his twenty years as a director of Quaritch and since 2008, when he left to pursue an independent career, Anthony has worked closely with Hordern House, sharing the firm's special interests in voyages and discoveries, particularly in the Pacific. Besides his work as an antiquarian bookseller, he is actively engaged in scholarly research and is writing a bibliographical study of Richard Hakluyt. He is also on the editorial board of the forthcoming Oxford University Press edition of Hakluyt's Principal Navigations and from 2009-14 was an Honorary Research Associate at University College London.
