About the Whitmont Collection: 80 years in the making

Hordern House is honoured to offer the Whitmont Collection, a treasure trove of significant original material, from a private Sydney library, tracing the early European history of Australia and the wider Pacific region. Much of its contents have not been seen in decades, and several important pieces are here offered publicly for the first time.

The collection, meticulously assembled by a prominent Sydney family over three generations, represents very considerable connoisseurship and an impressive history in its own right: it has been built over some eighty years, allowing the assembly of this rich and significant gathering of materials of such historical and cultural significance that they present a unique opportunity for collectors, historians, and institutions to acquire materials of great importance.
