Duperrey's Coquille voyage

Duperrey's expedition was principally a scientific one, and in this area was a resounding success. The Museum of Natural History had its collections enriched by some 1200 insects alone which were mostly collected by Dumont d'Urville, who was later to make two voyages of his own. The four-year voyage discovered new islands - for instance in the Gilbert and Caroline groups - as well as collecting valuable meteorological data and correcting errors in existing charts and maps.

The full description on the reverse reads: "Voyage Autour du Monde de la Corvette La Coquille. S.A.R.Mr. Le Duc D'Angoulême, Amiral de France -- Mr. le Mre. de Clermont-Tonnerre, Pair de France, Ministre de la Marine. Mr. Duperrey Lieut. De Vau., Comt. l'Expédition, 1822".
