A Compleat Body of Husbandry.

Osborne & Shipton: London, 1756.

Folio, coloured frontispiece and engravings throughout; an excellent uncut copy in recent half calf.

The first edition of a classic treatise on husbandry. The title-page states that the work encompasses 'Rules for performing, in the most profitable manner, the whole business of the Farmer and Country Gentleman, in Cultivating, Planting, and Stocking of Land'. Among many others, there are chapters on breeding and preserving cattle, the management of the orchard, the brewhouse and the dairy. The fine full-page and folding engravings, some handcoloured, show farming instruments, buildings, and plants. The whole work forms a compendium to rural pursuits during the eighteenth century.
