Paris: chez Garnery [and others], 1792.

Octavo, with two folding maps and a folding engraving of the breadfruit; contemporary calf, flat spine with red leather label, a very good copy.

From the library of Jean Claude Dezauche

The scarce first French edition: a very attractive copy with good provenance from an influential French geographic publisher. The French edition is based on, and published the same year as, the London quarto edition. This edition includes a newly-engraved image of the breadfruit, and two charts. The first is based closely on the charting of Matavai Bay in Tahiti that was first issued with the original English edition, while the second is a rendering of the entire open-boat track based on the original chart first printed in the Narrative, and included unaltered in the Voyage.
