The memoirs of the famous Benedictine monk, missionary, author, and musician, and his mission to the Aboriginal people at New Norcia in Western Australia; Salvado became bishop of Port Victoria in the Northern Territory, returned to Italy after the closing of the settlement, and wrote this while in Naples awaiting new orders from Rome in 1851.

There were two Italian editions and a Spanish version as well as this French edition, which is the only version of the book to contain the substantial article on gold at the end, actually the work of the translator, Abbé Falcimagne.
