The appendix includes discussion of the Orange-River settlement 'The gold-fields of Australia have become absorbing to many, who turn from Africa with disdain. But if Africa does not abound in "golden nuggets", it is enriched with "golden fleeces", and well deserves, at any rate, the notice of the traveller or wayfaring man'
