From the preface: 'The purpose of these modest pages is to present, with as much detail as space will permit, a story of his discovery and charting of those shores, an accomplishment which ranks amongst the greatest of his achievements. Two principal sources of information have been employed in attempting this task; firstly, Flinders' monumental work A Voyage to Terra Australis printed in 1814, and secondly, the unpublished logs of the Investigator.'
