The unsworn yet unbroken treaty

Published under the auspices of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania: 'The fame of the treaty under the Elm tree, or as it is called, the Great Treaty, is coextensive with the civilized world. So early as the middle of the Eighteenth Century, M. de Voltaire spoke of it as an historical fact, well known at that time. It is the only treaty between those nations and the Christians which was never sworn to, and never broken' (from the preface).
