Irreverent plates by S.T. Gill
Illustrated account of Australasian travel by Edward Wilson, radical democratic owner-editor of the "Argus". The story is based on extensive firsthand travel throughout Australasia in the later 1850s. The twelve plates by S. T. Gill (the well-known goldfields illustrator who died impoverished on the front steps of the Melbourne Town Hall) were especially commissioned for this book. They represent one of the few examples of his work illustrating the narrative text of another writer.
