Bounty immigrants bound for New South Wales

Invaluable historical resource, containing much information comparing the respective merits of emigration to British North America (Canada and New Brunswick) versus New South Wales.

Pages 38-157 of the report contain good information on the 'Bounty Immigrants' - skilled men and their families sponsored to settle in Australia. This initiative was undertaken by the government of Britain to stem the flow of skilled labour to the Americas, then a cheaper (and in many respects more attractive) prospect to emigrants during the period from 1830 onwards. For example, a chart over two pages lists all the Bounty Immigrant vessels, the number of men, women and children disembarked in Sydney and Port Philip, and the various costs incurred by the State in facilitating the process.

This volume is from the collection of Dr. Robert Edwards AO, in a characteristically fine binding typical of his collection.
