Howitt leads the Victorian Relief Expedition

Requests that Alfred Howitt and his men, comprising the Victorian Relief Expedition, stay in the field to effect a continental crossing (having traversed inland to Cooper's Creek charged with retreiving the bodies of Burke and Wills).

Requests that Alfred Howitt and his men, comprising the Victorian Relief Expedition, stay in the field to effect a continental crossing (having traversed inland to Cooper's Creek charged with retreiving the bodies of Burke and Wills).

The petition reads: 'a very small additional outlay would render it able to maintain many months longer in the field; and that the traverse of the region lying between Cooper's Creek and Swan River, by the discoveries it would effectuate would be most beneficial and highly redound to the honour of this colony'.
