A Chart of the Southern Hemisphere; Shewing the Tract of Capt Cook's Last Voyage.

Philadelphia: Dobelbower, Key and Simpson, 1796.

Engraved map by W. Barker, 260 x 205 mm.

From a very early American voyage anthology

A compact but pleasing chart showing the third voyage route, duly engraved "Owyhee here Capt. Cook was killed 1779". The map was printed for inclusion in The World Displayed, or A Curious Collection of Voyages and Travels… (Philadelphia 1796). Although cribbed from a London edition of the same name, this is one of the earliest voyage anthologies printed in the United States. The present map takes some liberty with the presentation of the Australian continent by conjoining Van Diemen's Land with the mainland.
