Charles Knight (1791-1873) was one of the most prolific and industrious English publishers of the nineteenth-century. The magisterial six volume London remains one of his most ambitious projects, rivalling the scale and complexity of his widely acclaimed English Cyclopaedia. Knight was the son of a printer who went on to study journalism after completing training with his father.
