The first illustrated edition of Newland's romance of the bush, first published in 1893. Paving the Way, although a work of fiction, is famous for its sympathetic account of the plight of the Australian aborigines, in particular the Mulla and Wompangee tribes, 'some of the finest tribes of all Australia'. This attractive copy of the book has a formal presentation inscription to G. H. Ekers from the Menindie Congregational School, dated Sept. 12 1922.
