As the caption to this portrait explains, this was newly engraved with the 'permission of Messrs. Colnaghi from their large Print after Thos. Phillips R.A. by W.T. Fry.' Banks died on 19 June 1820, which is why the caption here is so precisely dated to June of that year. It was evidently published quickly as a memento or souvenir of his passing.
