Early edition of an imaginary voyage to the Orient, purporting to be a translation from the Danish.
Early edition of an imaginary voyage to the Orient, purporting to be a translation from the Danish.Long recognised as one of the earliest imitations of Swift, most critics have also recognised this as one of the better attempts in the genre. Sailing from Copenhagen via the Cape of Good Hope the protagonist journeys past the newly discovered land of Japan, and into the imaginary lands of Norre and Arrimond, both situated on a land mass in the Bering Sea between latitudes 40° and 50°. Glanztby's adventures are numerous: he is party to a bloody revolution and its peaceful resolution, after which he assumes an ambassadorial role and journeys to the Court of China.
