Of special interest are three plates of Queen Liliuokalani at a traditional feast with her companions. The Queen's household guard is also illustrated.

Captain Cook's monument, with detail of the surrounding landscape, is illustrated.

The book in fact comprises three titles, the other two being The American Navy and Cuba and the Wrecked Maine. All three are here issued as a single volume by its Chicago publisher.
