Voyages de Gulliver. Jonathan SWIFT.

Voyages de Gulliver.

Paris: Bechet Aine, circa 1830.

Large octavo, woodcuts; some spots, unobtrusive stamp for 'Colportage Seine' on half-title, recent quarter morocco.

An attractive French edition of Gulliver, with an eclectic series of woodcuts clearly borrowed from diverse sources. The edition's educational value is underlined not only by the introduction to Swift's life, but by a series of appendices of genuine voyages: Magellan (with one plate), La Perouse (with a note claiming that Dumont d'Urville had recently discovered 'plusiers débris du naufrage de La Pérouse dans les récifs de l'île de Vanihoro' (sic)), D'Entrecasteaux and Freycinet.
