The work includes a surprisingly detailed account of New South Wales including notes on Tasmania, as well as a significant description of the aborigines. Bungaree, the veteran of both the Investigator and the Mermaid is specifically mentioned, with a long note about his powers of mimickry: 'my friend requested Bungarry to show how governor Macquarrie made a bow. Bungarry happened to be dressed in the old uniform of a military officer, and standing up in the stern of his boat, and taking off his cocked hat, with the requisite punctilio, he made a low formal bow, with all the dignity and grace of a general officer of the old school.'
