Of especial note is an exceptional fifteenth-century edition of Mandeville’s Travels, the famous voyage account of an Englishman who travelled to the Holy Land and as far as China after crossing the Channel in 1322; a remarkable manuscript volume which includes an unrecorded contemporary translation into Italian of Quiros’ famous Eighth Memorial on Terra Australis; a handsome copy of Chapman’s magnificent 1768 work of naval architecture, the Architectura navalis mercatoria; Harvey’s classic account of Australian seaweeds with its beautiful suite of coloured plates; and a set of the Dublin edition of Cook’s three voyages in splendid matched contemporary polished calf.
